Karen developed a love of movement and the body at a young age. A dancer since the age of 4, Karen continued to pursue a greater understanding of dance and body awareness at the University of Arizona where she completed her major in dance and received her Bachelors of Fine Arts. Her current study of Pilates and fitness has been a gratifying return to this exploration of the body and movement.
Karen worked as the Wellness Director at the Cumberland YMCA for 7 years before beginning her Pilates training and starting her career as a Pilates teacher at the Balanced Body Studio in Cumberland, MD. Since 2011, Karen has been teaching private and small group mat and equipment classes at the Balanced Body Studio. She also has the pleasure of working at LifeFitness Management in LaVale where she trains individual clients and teaches Spin, Booty Barre, TRX, PiYo and Pilates. Karen has been certified through the YMCA as a personal trainer and fitness program director. She maintains group fitness certifications through Mad Dogg Athletics, Booty Barre, TRX and PiYo. Her Pilates training has been extensive with reformer training through Balanced Body’s Education system and Comprehensive Level I certification through Peak Pilates. She is also certified through the Road Runners Club of America as a running coach and has competed several times at both the marathon and half marathon distance.
Though born and raised in Colorado, Karen has been a resident of Cumberland for the past 26 years and is a wife and mother of one. In that time, she has served as Board Treasurer for the Community Wellness Coalition and has been a member of the Advisory Committee for the Allegany College Therapeutic Massage Program.
Karen is excited to share her love of movement, her Pilates expertise, and her passion for fitness with the clientele at Studio A!
